The annual event includes live performances, a block party, and specials at local restaurants

Every year in March, the community of Verrado puts on its celebratory Founders Day block party to honor the anniversary of the opening of Verrado. This year, the event will be held on Saturday March 25 from 5:00-9:30 PM and will feature Berlin, Terri Nunn, Dramarama, and Tommy Tutone headlining their live concert in the evening. Earlier in the day, local Verrado musicians will also have the opportunity to take to the stage. Music aside, visitors will also have the chance to explore different games and activities held by community partners, as well as special deals on food and drinks at local Verrado restaurants such as The Vic and The Raven Grille.

“I’ve been going to Founders Day as long as I remember,” said junior Ann Weter. “Something about Founders Day is just really unique and I never seen any other community that does something like this.”

Founders Day is seen as significant by its locals as it is a celebration of everything the Verrado community has achieved in the last twelve years and what they can achieve in the future. It’s annual occurrence has given Verrado residents the chance to see each other grow year by year.

“Founders Day is one of my favorite times of the year. Every year we are convinced that it was the best one yet,” said Verrado resident Tara Mckenna in an interview posted on verrado.com. “We have watched our children and those of our neighbors go from dancing toddlers on the lawn to performing on stage in front of thousands of people.”

Founders Day gives many young Verrado residents to show off their music skills for the community like senior Kari Sundin, who has been performing their with the band her and her sisters have, Sunkissed,  at Founders Day for years.

“This will be the fifty year Sunkissed will be performing at Founders Day,” said Sundin. “I love Founder’s Day because you get to perform for the community with no pressure.”

Throughout the course of its twelve year history, the Founders Day celebration has hosted many notable musicians who have taken to the Main Street Stage. Well known musicians such as the B-52’s, Train, The Beach Boys, The Romantics, Andy Grammar, and Rick Springfield have all performed at Founders Day in years past.

“I think it’s really cool that every year Verrado is always able to get a big time musician to perform at Founders Day,” said senior Alexia Soto. “Seeing the Verrado community come together to celebrate is a really nice thing to see.”

Founders Day will kick off with its annual 5K and pancake breakfast at the fire station in the morning followed by the main events taking place in the evening.
