An Honest Review of The Suicide Squad

Caleb Simpson, Staff Writer

When you think of the Suicide Squad do you think of the classics like the Polka Dot Man and King Shark? Well in this version of Suicide Squad they bring some classic characters to the story. They have the story to go with it, it has some strange directions that they take with the story to go with it. The characters also go through some character development that feels a little faster than normal, and the actors played Their characters pretty decently and the rest is pretty good overall.

When we go to the beginning of the movie we are fitted with an ensemble of different characters such as Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag(Joel Kinneman), King Shark (Sylvester Stalone), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Rat Catcher (Daniella Melchoir), Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), and Peacemaker (John Cena). There was a mission with another ensemble of characters, this was team A which would complete a mission to cut off their sentence in prison. Rick flag (the chief of the mission) got captured by a group of rebels who are fighting against the Dominican Republic, the team is trying to get Flag from the rebels, it shows the B team from the starting screens, and before it continued anymore they went back a few days when the different characters were in prison before they were on the mission, we get to learn some of the backstories of the characters and what led up to some of the characters capture (some of the backstories were told until deeper into the movie), we also get the introduction of the different characters and the stories that led up to how they became apart of the squad and what the main mission was. But they find out ugly truths and government cover-ups. Will the team get through this alive?

The dialogue between the characters is witty most of the time and the movie has a lot of funny moments. The characters have some interesting development throughout the movie and it led to some “quite Intriguing” moments throughout the movie. The other thing about this movie is that it can get too much, such as a couple of the Harley Quinn scenes were just too random and seemed quite out of the ordinary, it could have been held back just slightly to give the movie a little bit more of a stable story so it’s wasn’t so overpowering, some of the relationships of the characters were also pretty strange in how quick they were forming the different relations.

Overall the movie had its ups and downs, pros and cons, it’s not a movie for the faint of heart, the acting was decent, some of the characters were pretty decent as well. But the move had overdone a few things here and there. If the movie had more control factors then the movie probably would have gone for a better position and left with a better ending. The overall rating of the entire story is great overall there are just some things that could have been slightly adjusted to make it a little more of a controllable movie.
