The popular animated Netflix series Arcane is returning on November 2, 2024, for a second season. To build hype and suspension for the upcoming season Riot Games and Virgin Music Group released the full tracklist for season 2 on their socials. The album is set to be released on Spotify on November 23, 2024.
The soundtrack will feature hot artists such as Twenty-One Pilots, Ashnikko, and most notably Stray Kids. Said track is called “Come Play” featuring Stray Kids, Young Miko, and Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine.
Stray Kids has taken the world by storm in recent years attending high-end events such as the VMAs and the Met Gala, even going as far as winning Best Kpop in the 2023 VMAs. It’s no surprise they would be making a feature in the album.
Stray Kids is an 8-member boy band based in Seoul, South Korea. The subunit named ‘3racha’ consists of members Bang Chan, Seo Changbin, and Han Jisung act as the group’s producer line creating and manufacturing all tracks and albums themselves.
Debuting on March 25th, 2018 with their debut song District 9, the groups have been slowly and steadily reaching record-breaking achievements. Most notably in their song God’s Menu hitting 375,606,708 listens on Spotify since its release on September 14, 2024, and even having another feature on the Deadpool and Wolverine soundtrack with their song called Slash.
Many wonder how Stray Kids gained such popularity when in their early years they were considered ‘rookies’ and were quickly overlooked. JYP Entertainment, the company Stray Kids is under, enlisted 8-year trainee and 21-year-old Bang Chan to create his very own group.
He was entrusted to find the members, produce their music, and create the logo and name. Once he had his group they were put in a survival show humorously called ‘Stray Kids’ for the chance of finally debuting. The group went through many close calls such as members Lee Know and Lee Felix being eliminated in said show, only to shortly come back later in the series. For many years after the group’s debut they had little luck making a name for themselves in the industry facing mistreatment and criticism from their peers and onlookers.
Only just recently have people started to recognize their talent, taking a liking to the unique noisy sound in their music, having a severe contrast against other groups in the K-pop scene.
Arcane is an animated series based on the game, “League of Legends” which was released on Nov 26, 2021. In the events of season 1, we are introduced to the premise of the show, rising conflicts between the wealthy utopian city of Piltover and the oppressed and troubled undercity of Zaun.
Shifting between the two sides in the underbelly of Zaun, Sisters Violet and Powder who have gone through everything together, witnessing their parent’s death by Piltover enforcers during a failed uprising against the Piltover Powers. The siblings become mixed up with the conflicts between the two sides having a detrimental fallout with each other.
On the opposing side in Piltover, we follow inventors Viktor and Jayce bonding over their dreams of improving life for others by using technology, creating and perfecting their invention known as Hextech. As the show progresses though, the tension between the two cities becomes more apparent leading to the start of a genocidal war against the two.
A true work of art highlighting the issues and damage that poverty, war, and corrupt powers cause.
Fans of Stray Kids and Arcane are ecstatic about the news. Many quickly ran to social media such as TikTok and X (formally known as Twitter) expressing their satisfaction about the two collaborating. The group expressed their excitement about the feature, “Our single ‘Come Play’ has a dynamic taste to it, bringing all sorts of voices and languages together. We enjoy playing ‘League of Legends,’ and we’re excited for fans to hear this song and see the second season of ‘Arcane!’” Added Stray Kids in an interview.
Many fans of Stray Kids and Arcane must wait impatiently for the album and series to drop on Netflix. If the song is anything like other Stray Kids releases expect it to be the talk of the town, winning awards left and right!
