Every year, Verrado Cafeteria makes sure to have at least one tasty dessert. Two years ago, it was an oatmeal cookie that came with the fruit salads. Last year, it was two gooey chocolate chip cookies or small prepackaged donuts.
Magnolia, recalling her freshman year of high school, claims that, “The cookies were the best part of my meal. I loved them!”
Most students bought a tasty treat once in a while, and it was the highlight of their lunch. In 2025, however, students were dismayed to realize that the chocolate chip cookies that were sold the year prior were gone.
One student, Kylie Golledge, went up to ask one of the lunch workers why there weren’t any more cookies or donuts, who then replied, “Oh, yeah, we aren’t doing that anymore.”
Students were sad and disappointed. One of them, Annabelle Abraham, says, “Aw, I loved eating the donuts. Too bad they don’t have them anymore.”
For two weeks, hope seemed to be lost from getting a sweet treat, when on a random school day, two weeks into the school year, students once again found a brand new dessert.
The brookie.
It’s wrapped in a white cupcake liner, and it’s made of brownies on the outside, with gooey chocolate chip cookies on the inside. The brookie soon became the school cafeteria’s new favorite dessert. Of course, students still missed the old cookies and donuts, but the brookie became the best of both worlds.
One student, Abigail Penney, who has gotten the brookie almost every day since their release, claims that, “I love it so much, it’s the perfect dessert after my lunch. Even when I don’t buy the cafeteria food, I still get the brookie.”
And although some students are still disappointed that the past desserts are gone, they are welcoming towards the new sweet treat. Aislyn, a Junior at Verrado, says, “Yeah, the old cookies were good, but I still love the Brookie.”
So try the brookie, and see for yourself whether you like it better than past desserts, or not.
