An Overview of the 2026 Grammys

On February 1st, the 68th Annual Grammy Awards took place. This is a very important event to music lovers all over the world, and those who play their respective roles in the music industry. It took place in Los Angeles, California, at the Crypto.com Arena. The show was hosted by Trevor Noah, marking his sixth consecutive time as host. Singers, rappers, producers, and everybody in between were invited to attend this award show, where they were nominated in various categories.

After walking the red carpet, showing off their extravagant outfits, along with getting interviewed and photographed by members of the press and paparazzi, the celebrities filed into the seating area and took their seats.

The first award of the night was under the “Best New Artist” category. The nominees were Katseye, The Marías, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, Lola Young, and Olivia Dean. Olivia Dean took home this award, which many viewers believe was well deserved. Record of the year was awarded to “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. Song of the year was awarded to “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish O’Connell and Finneas O’Connell. Another notable nominee in this category was DtMF by Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio), Marco Daniel Borrero, Scott Dittrich, Benjamin Falik, Hugo Rene Rencion Sanabria, Tyler Thomas Spry, and Roberto Jose Rosado Torres, all songwriters on this magnificent song.

“DtMF”, argued by many viewers, should have won over “Wildflower”. Bad Bunny fans all over the world were happy to see that he still went home with the award for Best Música Urbana Album and Album of the Year for his Debí Tirar Más Fotos, along with Best Global Music Performance for “EoO”. Debí Tirar Más Fotos was also nominated for Best Album Cover, however, did not win.

The other nominees for Best Album Cover were Wet Leg’s Moisturizer, Tyler, the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA, Perfume Genius’ Glory, and Djo’s The Crux. This award went to CHROMAKOPIA. However, many fans, including myself, believe that the award should have gone to Djo for the gorgeous The Crux album cover. As somebody who is a fan of both Tyler, the Creator and Djo, this is something that I feel very strongly about. CHROMAKOPIA is an amazing album with both meaningful and fun songs, but the album cover, in comparison to The Crux, does not hold lots of details that tie into the songs on this album.

The Crux’s album cover holds many details, tying back to the songs that are on this album. From the people in the hotel’s windows, to the banner plane in the sky, to the people on the street, every person and thing holds meaning and is strategically placed. This album cover is very fun, and I personally love to look at it while I’m listening to this album and would strongly encourage readers to take a listen and enjoy the gorgeous album cover, taken by photographer Neil Krug.

Producer of the year was awarded to Cirkut, who has produced songs such as “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “APT.” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars, and “A Little More” by Ed Sheeran.

Songwriter of the year, which held very interesting nominees, was awarded to Amy Allen, who worked on songs such as “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Lost in Translation” by Tate McRae. Other notable nominees include Edgar Barrera who worked on “Me Jalo” by Fuerza Regida”, Jessie Jo Dillon who worked on “Bless Your Heart” by Megan Moroney, and Tobias Jesso Jr who worked on “Man I Need” by Olivia Dean and “Daisies” by Justin Bieber.

Overall, this year’s Grammys was a very successful event and a great showcase of the amazing people who work hard to make their dreams come true in the music industry today. The 2027 Grammys will have large shoes to fill!
