Forget everything you think you know about “sitting in a classroom.” At The Viper Times, we don’t just study the news, we create the culture. Whether you’re looking to become the next big YouTuber, a top-tier investigative journalist, or the mastermind behind a viral social media campaign, the Digital Media & Journalism course is your playground.
The room is full of excitement and movement, students typing on computers, getting cameras ready, and podcasts being set up. Students huddle together recording while others look at MAC screens fixing articles. While others figure out what their next articles are going to be, others are leaving to take photos that turn into real projects.

This energy shows how much students are involved and how every person plays a part in creating something meaningful. In the Viper Times/Digital Media class, everyone contributes in their own way which helps build a supportive team environment. What makes this class stand out is how hands-on it is. Instead of only reading or listening, students are creating content that is published weekly.
he Digital Media & Journalism course is transforming the way students think about their screens, turning casual scrollers into professional-grade creators. Whether you’re interested in becoming the next big voice in podcasting, a cinematic storyteller, or the mastermind behind a viral social media campaign, this class is where that journey begins.
The class also goes on field trips and many school events that our class writers and photographers attend, taking pictures and summarizing crucial information that leads to great articles. All of this work comes together to build the Viper Times, where our projects are shared with the school community. More and more projects get inserted to the school’s newspaper that continues to grow and develop student-made pieces. It feels rewarding to see something you helped create being read or viewed by others.
“Whenever one of my stories get published I feel proud and accomplished. I like to share them with my friends and family so they could read them and check out what I’ve been working on,” Graciella Perez who is an Editor for The Viper Times mentioned.

Digital Media & Journalism is about exploring different skills while working together as a class, learning how media is made, and finding out what you enjoy doing along the way. Students also get the chance to improve communication and collaboration with students and teachers, which are useful in many career paths.
The magic of the course lies in its hands-on variety. Instead of sticking to one lane, students dive headfirst into a toolkit that covers everything from cinematic video production and high-definition photography to the art of the interview. You might spend one week mastering the perfect camera angle at a campus event and the next scripting a deep-dive article or editing a podcast episode. This isn’t just about technical skill; it’s about discovering the “why” behind the media we interact with every single day.
Editor at Large, Antonio Larson adds: “The Digital Media & Journalism course is transforming the way students think about their screens, turning casual scrollers into professional-grade creators. Whether you’re interested in becoming the next big voice in podcasting, a cinematic storyteller, or the mastermind behind a viral social media campaign, this class is where that journey begins.”
You get to experiment with different roles and you start to discover your own “main character” energy. You might come in thinking you’re a writer, only to realize you have a natural talent for directing or social media strategy. Every assignment no matter how simple it’s designed to build the confidence.
Ultimately, this course makes media feel engaging and meaningful. It’s about finding your voice, building your portfolio, and realizing that your perspective actually matters. If you’re ready to stop watching the story and start leading the conversation, it’s time to join the crew and help us define what it truly means to be a Viper.
