Yesterday afternoon, Verrado said goodbye to five seniors who signed off to their chosen colleges: Deriece Brown (4), Caden Gingg (2), Jordan Hiller(13), Trey Hageman(62), and Gavin Naylor(24); with a suspected two more once they pick their colleges. However, overall twelve players got offers in total, while some decided to take the academic route.

The players set up tables with their jerseys, names, colleges, footballs, and, of course, the papers they signed to commit to the colleges.

The ceremony started with Coach Hathcock giving a heartfelt speech about the team and the players that helped them get so far into the season.

Coach Hatthcock says, “It has nothing to do with me, has nothing to do with the coaching here, it has everything to do with the players and the family’s sacrifices…” The coaching staff supported the team throughout, but the main reason why the players are where they are today is because of the effort they put in themselves.

The team reached the semi-finals this year, an improvement from the previous game. With the change of no football players signing last year, seniors this year are making waves and examples for the underclassmen.

Then the microphone was passed around to the players and they thanked all the people that got them to where they are today. Thanking their parents, friends, coaches, and anybody else who led them throughout their career.

From a countdown of three the players signed off at the same time. With cheers from the audience of families and friends.

Each player picked the following colleges; Deriece Brown went to the University of New Mexico (D1), Caden Gingg picked the University of San Diego (D1), Jordan Hiller picked Western New Mexico University (D2), Trey Hageman picked Western Colorado University (D2) and Gavin Naylor went to Claremont McKenna College (D3).

Verrado congratulated the boys who got offers and wished them luck as they grew even further after high school. You always have a home here at Verrado, good luck!
