On Aug. 18, 2025, one of Verrado High School’s own, Honors Algebra II teacher Camille Jackson, was interviewed by ABC 15 News as part of its West Valley Teacher Features series.
Jackson has been a staple at Verrado for about 11 years. She majored in mathematics at Arizona State University and decided to dedicate her career to helping students build confidence in problem-solving. “Some of my favorite moments were during the Winter Assembly, dancing with all the other teachers, going to tailgate festivities before the home football games with staff members, and even coming up with things to better help the community,” Jackson said.
During the visit, ABC 15 staff filmed a “day in the life” inside her classroom. Jackson admitted she was nervous about the spotlight. “While they were here, I was feeling very hesitant about doing this interview and did not want to really do it. Once I texted my husband, he gave me words of encouragement to go ahead and take on this big challenge, and that’s what helped me,” she said.
ABC 15 staff member Melinda Marquis praised Jackson’s reputation, saying, “I have heard amazing things about her being a teacher. What we know so far is that she helps collaborate with her students and expresses her creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills with her peers around her.”
After filming, Jackson sat down for a 15-minute interview about what makes her stand out at Verrado. She spoke about the challenges of teaching nearly 180 students daily while balancing relationships with both staff and students. “We have to be there for fellow staff members, work with 150-180 students each day, and try to develop a relationship with every student while keeping their needs in mind every day,” Jackson said.
ABC 15 plans to return later this year to check in with Jackson. In the meantime, she said her focus remains on building strong relationships with her students and colleagues while continuing to push herself to grow as an educator.
