The Agua Fria District has made history by introducing women’s Flag Football as an official school sport last winter. What began as an exhibition season has now led to Verrado boasting one of the best women’s flag football teams in the district. Other schools in the district, such as Agua Fria, Canyon View, Millenium, and Desert Edge, have also enthusiastically embraced the sport, showcasing the remarkable talent and dedication of female athletes in this electrifying game.
The commitment to providing a positive experience for the girls has been a key factor in the team’s success this season, according to Verrado Flag Football Head Coach, Terry Barnes. “A positive experience for the girls is the most important thing to us, and I believe that has contributed to our success this season. We put in substantial effort during the Spring and Summer to effectively communicate our style and culture so that returning girls can pass it on to our newcomers,” says Coach Barnes.
Verrado’s Athletic Director, Garrett Maier, further emphasizes, “We are fortunate to be in a district that is passionate about creating opportunities for our female athletes. At Verrado, we are privileged to have a coaching staff for flag football that deeply cares about the girls’ athletic and personal growth”
