The flag football season is done. The team did great and had a six-game winning streak. Also, they made the playoffs. That is a first in flag-football history, here at Verrado.
The Lady Vipers ended the season with a record of 7-6. Working hard, they had practiced on weekdays and Saturdays.
The ladies learned many different plays and adapted to things seconds before the whistle blew. Their wins have been substantial with most wins not even being close. Their biggest win was 34-0 against Vista Granda.
Senior night was also a big night for the Vipers as well with a 26-0 win! All ten seniors performed wonderfully during the game against Agua Fria. Samantha Miller, Kalia Santos, Noelia Vargas, and Angelia Topps have led the Viper team as captains and will be missed once they graduate.
“I’ll miss the laughs and just hanging out with the team,” Senior Erika stated.
The team is a strong group of girls, they are like family to each other with all of the fond memories they made with one another. Senior Aryana said, “The funniest moments were pre-game dances in the fieldhouse”. Alongside that Erika added, “Aryanna dances on the field, and the coaches always yell at her, it’s very funny when that happens”.
All around, the team knew how to have a good time. They always pulled through and were always game-ready, keeping their eyes on the prize.
Defense star Aryana also said, “I’ll miss the feeling of stopping an opponent from scoring a touchdown.”
With a lot of the team being seniors, next year will be full of exploration and rebuilding. The remaining girls will try their best and succeed as much as they did this season the next time flag football season rolls around. However, the team will need recruits with all the vacant spots that will be left by seniors.
Captain Santos advises remaining and potential new girls by saying, “Don’t be scared to be aggressive and go out of your comfort zone. Don’t feel intimidated to try football just because it’s a ‘guys’ sport’. We become a team and we push each other to be the best and together we can play football”. Erika added, “Have fun with it but always give it your best.”
Kalia sums up her experience on the team by saying, “It was a fun new experience. After playing flag football, I watch the boys’ football differently, I recognize things I’ve learned from flag football. It’s a learning experience where everyone is learning with you. With it being a new sport you are being a part of something new and exciting to be a part of history.”
Aryana said one last thing directed to the underclassmen she played with: “I will forever miss all my lil viper mates and I hope to see them continue being amazing athletes and I will carry the memories in my heart.”
