The Verrado girls’ volleyball team has begun its season, promising a couple of months of improvement and accomplishments. The teams were selected after a hard-working summer of volleyball and conditioning. Coaches Erin Sims, Arlette Acosta, Rudy Ramirez, Mikayla Lopez, and Michael Lopez have assembled a talented lineup to represent Verrado High School.
Of the 62 players who attended tryouts, only 41 made the final cut, becoming part of the Verrado High School volleyball program, comprising JV Black, JV Gold, and Varsity. There are 14 girls in JV Black, 13 in JV Gold, and 14 in Varsity. The coaches for varsity are Mikayla Lopez, Erin Sims, and Michael Lopez. The coaches for both JV teams are Arlette Acosta and Rudy Ramirez.
Head coach Mikayla Lopez is optimistic about the season, stating, “At all levels, I think we have the elements we need to have a great season. We had a ton of freshmen trying out this year, which was awesome for our program’s growth.” Coach Ramirez is very excited about all of his different options. “Our JV Gold team has experienced players, and the coaches are excited to see them lead and grow as a team. Varsity is looking strong with versatile players, and the coaches are looking forward to seeing what this team can do this season.”
