K-pop girl group Blackpink’s oldest member, actress, and model Kim Jisoo recently released her solo EP titled AMORTAGE on February 14, 2025. Compared to her group members who have been releasing new projects throughout the year, Jisoo hasn’t come out with nearly as much.
Although fans were ecstatic when Jisoo announced this release, it took years for her solo debut with her song “꽃 (FLOWER)” back in 2023. The song truly captivated the industry. The fun and easy-to-follow choreography allowed the song to have its own popular TikTok trend that many other K-pop artists joined in on their socials.
In comparison to her bandmates who are more popular internationally and collaborate with well-known Western artists, Jisoo is more popular in her native country, Korea. With members like Lisa being from Thailand, and Rosé and Jennie growing up in Australia and New Zealand, they can communicate and pander to millions of other fans. Jisoo was born and raised in South Korea, and Korean fans are more drawn to her.
30-year-old Kim Jisoo began as a trainee under YG Entertainment in August 2016 and trained for 6 years. She became the lead vocalist of the popular girl group and later became an ambassador for Dior, Cartier, Dyson, Alo, and Tommy Hilfiger. She even went as far as creating her own company, BLISSOO, to further explore her solo projects.
Jisoo’s distinctive deep soothing voice is a breath of fresh air compared to other female K-pop artists with higher-pitched cutesy tones in their songs.
The songs in her EP further explore and match her unique voice. In her title track “Earthquake”, the captivating visuals of her music video and choreography make this comeback one of the most memorable out of the Blackpink members.
One song that stuck out the most was her track “Your Love”, the lyrics all being in English. This is interesting since out of all her members who are fluent in the language, Jisoo in comparison lacks English skills, resulting in her not being one of the more popular members in the group internationally. Despite this factor, the song was one of Jisoo’s best releases.
Each song on the EP has its take and perspective on love, keeping the listener captivated on the journey and eager to listen to more. One of the minimal downsides of this album is that there are only four tracks, due to it being an EP and not a full-length album which is shared among artists nowadays.
All in all, the album is fantastic. Each song has its own catchy and captivating melodies and beats. The music video visuals are also beautiful and enchanting. Jisoo is an extremely talented artist and has paved the way for the future of K-pop.
