The Fall sports season is already upon the school! Plenty of sports have now become available to aspiring and returning athletes. Keeping active is a good way to stay healthy, make new friends, and experience something new. If you’re struggling to choose a particular sport this year, why not try out for the Verrado swim team?
Starting Monday on the 11th, to Thursday, the 14th, swim team tryouts will be held at the YMCA at Litchfield and Thomas (2919 N Litchfield Rd, Goodyear), from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Worried about not having transportation there? Bus transportation will be provided after school at the bus loop at 2:45. Be sure to bring your trunk, towel, water, and a change of clothes on the days you decide to go. Having a few snacks to munch on afterwards isn’t a bad idea either!
The Verrado Swim Team is coached by Thalia Tate and captained by veteran swimmers Marco Torres, Addie Jacobs, and Caleb Whitehorse.
When asked about what to expect from the upcoming season, Coach Thalia said, “Swimming is a great way to start living a healthier lifestyle. If you choose to swim, you will find it not only opens you to opportunities to connect—but also to experience growth, confidence, and the unmatched strength that comes from challenging yourself in the water.”
Torres added, “Advice I would give is to show up to the tryouts all the days and just have fun. Something to expect from swim season is a fun, hardworking season competing at meets and placing at invitationals.” To keep up with the seam team during the season, join the team’s SportsYou group. The code is UZN9-3YMC.
This year’s swim season is sure to be exciting, with the season lasting from August to October, a hefty amount of time to work with plenty of meets in between, perfect opportunities to test your speed and technique against equally skilled opponents. Suppose you’re feeling the fires of competition inside you, and you have the time marks required for it. In that case, there are also several invitationals for serious swimmers seeking speedy adversaries to engage against for honor, glory, and fun.
If this sparks interest, come out for tryouts next week!
The Fall Season parent meeting will also be at the end of tryouts week, on the 14th.
Even if swimming doesn’t turn out to be your sport, participating in practice is still a perfect place to placate patches of passiveness (pardon my phrasing) and see what other sports and opportunities are available to you.
Remember that if you are trying out for any sport this season or next, you will need your FinalForms all filled out, along with your swim gear.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

I am really thrilled to learn more about the swim team and this article was a great start.I have always had a passion for swimming throughout my life but high school convinced me to consider the team. I have seen a lot about people on swimming teams and what they do I feel like it is a fun and competitive sport.Joining this team might be the missing piece since I love being in the water. I will definitely be trying out a swim team even if it isn’t with the school.

Looking forward to an awesome swim season! I’ve been on the team before, and it’s always such a great experience. The coaches and captains really make it fun, and the competition at the meets keeps you motivated. If you’re thinking about joining, definitely give it a shot you won’t regret it!

Swim tryouts seem very interesting and something I would consider. Even if I don’t end up doing it this year I might consider it the next. I like that what’s included most is the fun. There is competition and teamwork along with a little dose of fun which forms every good sport. As long as this sport is beginner friendly and will support me on the way, I would highly consider it.
