Friday night at Verrado High wasn’t just about football; it was a full-on party. The Viper Pit came alive with cowboy hats, flannels, boots, and bandanas for the first theme of the year, the “Husky Ho-Down,” a playful nod to the visiting Horizon Huskies. Western Night had students shouting, dancing, and cheering as loud as ever, creating a wild and unforgettable kickoff to the season. Students went all-in on the western look, waved cowboy hats high in the air, and the section even broke into a few rounds of line dancing between plays. The chants were louder than ever, with the Pit echoing like a rodeo crowd every time Verrado made a big stop. The mix of Western spirit and school pride made the stands feel like the most fun place in Buckeye that night.
But the night wasn’t only about wrangling Huskies—it also set the stage for something even bigger: Homecoming. At halftime, anticipation buzzed through the stands as StuGo gathered on the field to announce this year’s theme. When “City Nights and City Lights” flashed across the stadium, the crowd lit up with excitement. Bright neon vibes, city skylines, and glowing lights will shape this year’s dance, promising an atmosphere full of energy, sparkle, and fun.
StuGo adviser Ms. Angela Summers shared how much she enjoys watching students take ownership of the big events. “The students really take the lead when it comes to the theme of Homecoming,” Summers said. “I love seeing their initiative and creativity—our StuGo team works so hard to plan events that the whole school will remember.”
On the field, the Vipers fought hard in a close, competitive game that showed their determination and teamwork. While the final score leaned Horizon’s way, the night proved that Verrado’s athletes—and its student section—are ready for an electric season of Friday Night Lights.
