A lot of school spirit is happening due to it being the week leading up to Verrado’s 2026 Homecoming Dance, City Lights and City Nights. StuGo has a lot planned throughout the week so take a look out for fun activities and festive decorations.
Just this last Saturday was the HOCO block party and parade around Main Street. With the theme sports teams and organizations decorated their floats based on different cities; from Vegas and New York in the US to cities far away like Paris. They were competing on the best float and the top three included Pom, Cheer, and Flag Football! After the parade there was Verrado’s annual block party held at the Verrado Middle fields, filled with fun activities that help raise money for their respective clubs and sports. There were many food trucks as well for the students.
As of this week there’s of course a spirit week based on different cities. Today is New York, meaning students around Verrado are wearing streetwear and Y2K inspired outfits. Then it’s Miami which will be a beachy themed day, students are encouraged to wear tropical shirts and other accessories. However Verrado asks students to be fully covered for this theme, meaning not to wear swimsuits.
On hump day it’s Jersey Shore, meaning to go out on animal print! The final day themed around cities is Dallas, vipers should be wearing tailgate attire which is boots and jerseys! Which then leads to Friday’s spirit day called “All of the Lights”, all students are asked to wear the neon colors assigned to their class; green for freshman, orange for sophomores, blue for juniors and pink for seniors. Friday’s spirit day is for Verrado’s first assembly for the 25-26 school year. It is also Verrado’s special neon assembly, meaning it will be filled with fun glow in the dark shenanigans.
StuGo also has planned a fun activity for students to do the entire week leading up to that assembly this Friday. That being Roshambo, which is just a fancier word for rock, paper, scissors. During today’s second period you should have received one beaded necklace for this game. It’s a tournament like format where as a student you are able to challenge friends or strangers to a single roshambo match.
If you win this match you get however many beads this person has at the time, if you have more than five you can battle a teacher as well. However to not disturb the learning environment students are asked to only do this during passing periods and lunch periods. The goal is to get the most before the assembly this Friday to then compete live during the assembly to find the winner. The winner will receive a viper chain and bragging rights!
The last thing happening before Homecoming is the HOCO game. It will be Verrado vs South Mountain. After Varsity came off a strong game against Yuma Catholic winning 35-0 we hope they continue that energy. To support them we ask vipers to follow the pit theme which is the same theme as the spirit week that day, All of The Lights. Wear as much neon as you can and show up in the stands! Tickets for the game are available on GoFan for $5 for students with ID’s.
On the topic of tickets students are still able to get theirs for Homecoming on GoFan as well or in person at the bookstore. But they are closing sales this Thursday at 2:30pm. The tickets being $35 dollars each and guest forms are also available in the bookstore if you’d like to bring a friend outside of Verrado. Those are due tomorrow however so get them in soon!
Enjoy this week vipers especially the seniors this year. Don’t be afraid to show off viper pride and participate in all these events and games.
