Everyone has at least heard one Taylor Swift song in their life. But each of them has a different feel or theme to them. Over the course of her 18 years playing, Taylor has gone through a total of 10 different “eras”. Each album has significant changes, keeping her relevant within the constantly changing music scene.
Taylor Swift fans are known for being very committed to not just her music but her as a person. They are interested in her personal drama, love life, and everything in between. Many fans want to see how events in her life will affect her music and songwriting.
A prime example of this is in her album Speak Now, where she sings about the personal troubles she faced with her ex-boyfriend. The publicity she faces will always have something to do with curious fans that want to know more.
A big deal back in the earlier days of her career was her switch from country to pop music. This was a shock since many artists of that time were usually only known for one genre that they’d stick with for years. All of Taylor’s music have usually been love songs or heartbreak songs. Although most of her albums have been pretty persistent with this theme, she did go through a huge change in the way her music sounds. The switch from country music to pop threw her into the mainstream even more.
She officially switched to pop in her album 1989 in 2014. Although many were sad to see her country music go, others were interested in her bright pop image. All of her pop albums since then have been a massive success with 1989 having a total of 14 million copies sold worldwide.
All of Taylor’s albums have made a mark on the public but Reputation quickly became a controversial hit. Completely switching from country and pop music to an edgy album with a dark theme was very different for her. Although the response to it was mixed, the drama surrounding it brought her into the spotlight. folklore and evermore were also a slight change from her previous pop albums. With both albums having a very calm feeling and soft vocals, it almost felt like a flashback to Speak Now. The whole vibe of these two albums were very similar to each other, but a far stretch from her more upbeat albums.
When asked what era of Taylors stands out the most to her, Aria Anderson felt that Lover was her favorite. According to her, “I like it a lot more than her past albums because all of the songs are very upbeat and they make me feel happy. I also enjoy the collaboration with brendon Urie.” Every era provokes different feelings for every fan, whether happy or sad they all mean something.
A more recent success of hers is the Eras Tour, a 3-hour concert showcasing all of Taylor Swift’s eras. This is everything Taylor fans have ever wanted. All of her past tours have highlighted her current era and stuck to a specific theme. This recent tour was able to highlight a little bit of everything from her career. Her pop albums, alternative albums, and everything in between were featured. This was a huge hit with fans, with them being able to see all their favorite Taylor eras in one place.
“Going to the Eras Tour was the best experience of my life. It was amazing to experience all of the eras of her music in one place,” says Gabby Comer avid Swiftie and Eras Tour attendee.
Taylor Swift’s music has always been known by the public. Her ability to change her image and sound so frequently while still being able to draw fans in and keep them interested is impressive.
