STUGO is student government, here at Verrado High School we have STUGO where students plan events, charities, assemblies, haunted houses, block parties, homecoming, prom, etc. Students from Stugo run all these events in hopes of bringing people together and also making them more aware of what Verrado High School has to offer.
Rio Brown, a Senior at Verrado High School, is the Senior Class President and has been a part of STUGO since her sophomore year of high school. During the interview with Rio, she was asked about how she got started with student government.
Rio stated, “Stugo to me is really like an opportunity to meet new people and get to learn how to actually curate an event, learn all the basics on how school is run and basic governmental policies.”
Stugo helps with making decisions for your future whether it’s going to college or pursuing something later on in life.
“ I’m definitely considering continuing student leadership in the future and I don’t think I would’ve done that if I hadn’t done Stugo. Stugo encouraged me to continue different leadership options, clubs, and activities.”
The Viper Times asked if STUGO has anything coming up they’re excited about.
“Yes, we have the haunted house this Saturday, October 21st from 5 pm- 9 pm and it’s fifteen dollars per person, it will be very fun and I believe it will be scary but it’s going to be fun and bring your friends because it is just going to be awesome!.” She also feels that events like this bring in people.
STUGO wouldn’t be here without Mrs.Spiegel. Last year Mrs.Spiegel had to step up and take the teaching position for STUGO. A teacher before her had left Verrado High School and left STUGO alone without a teacher. Mrs.Spiegel stepped up and took the position and does not regret it.
During the interview with Mrs.Spiegel if she was happy with her decision.
Mrs.Spiegel stated, “ Yes I am very happy to have taken over the STUGO class, The kids are great and they are a very good group to have.”
STUGO provides events to attend here at Verrado, but who makes the decisions and how do they come up with the ideas? Mrs.Spiegel gives opportunities to the students to vote on themes and come up with fundraising ideas and events to bring Verrado High School together.
STUGO is currently planning the annual haunted house here at Verrado High School, it is planned to happen on October 21, 2023, from 5 pm-9 pm where they will be providing the spookiest haunted house.
