On April 9th, the Verrado Softball team celebrated Senior Night, paying tribute to Abbey Feld and Teagan Winberg, their graduating seniors, in a game against Millennium. The ceremony commenced at 5:30, just before the game, with both seniors taking a sentimental final walk along the bases. As they traversed the diamond, Head Coach Tee Hampton praised their achievements and shared insights into their future endeavors.
The ceremony included heartfelt gestures from teammates, with gifts presented at each base. This tradition, a big part of Verrado Softball, commenced at first base with a jar of dirt from the varsity field. At second base, the seniors were given a ball signed by all team members. Finally, at third base, they were greeted with a bouquet of their favorite flowers.
Following their walk, the seniors’ fathers threw out the ceremonial first pitch, which was caught by their daughters. The game commenced with the Vipers taking an early lead of 3-0 after the first inning. Ultimately, Verrado secured a resounding victory with a final score of 15-2 by the end of the fifth inning.
Post-game, the senior night traditions continued as the team set up tables and chairs on the field, gathering with their families to enjoy a meal generously donated by Raising Cane’s. Both seniors delivered heartfelt speeches, expressing gratitude and recounting cherished memories. Later, they opened their gifts provided by the boosters, which included a personalized duffle bag and blanket, along with two gift cards each.
The evening was a fitting tribute to the seniors, who cherished the opportunity to uphold the traditions of Verrado Softball.
