On Labor Day weekend at Chase Field, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks had a fierce in-division matchup. The matchup had turned out to be a bit uneventful for the Diamondbacks as they only took one game out of the four-game series. Although they outscored the Dodgers 35 – 32, a majority of those runs came later in the games when the Dbacks were already down.
One of the big reasons the DBacks lost this series was starting pitching. Over all four games, the Dbacks’ starting pitching had an ERA of 6.75 over 20.0 IP. That’s not a recipe for winning, especially against teams like the Dodgers.
If you want to have a good chance at beating the Dodgers, it’s important to get through their 1-2-3 punch of Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman or at least, limit their damage. But again, those three are some of the best in the MLB and it’s a tough task for any starting pitcher to be put with. Now with this week coming up, the Dbacks look to have a better turnout than the last.
