Starting a new school year is always hard, and back to school shopping, for clothes, school supplies etc. are all things that we can look forward to. Some of us like to color coordinate school supplies and enjoy picking out special pens and cute notebooks. In this article, I‘m going to go over some popular things and looks that are in for the 2025 school year.
Each year, we can all notice different things go in and out of style, and something that plays a big role in that is social media. Social media heavily influences people to follow different trends. The Coconut Jansport backpack was popular, and Labubu’s are a big one, as people like to put them on their backpacks. Speaking of backpacks, you may have seen lots of people wearing backpacks that are for younger kids. However, it has become a trend to wear those types of backpacks for your senior year. Alexia Bridges, a junior here at Verrado, said that her favorite back to school trend this year is the Coach City Tote Bag. She added, “I love the way it looks, and it also stands out differently from other backpacks.”
Onto clothing, there are many different styles of clothing that are trending. Adidas Sambas, Birkenstocks, baggy jeans, and for the athletes, Yeezy slides (WITH SOCKS) have all been in this year. While those are some of the more popular trends right now, there are also microtrends depending on the season, such as UGGs and more seasonal wear. During the summertime, girls prefer wearing tank tops, with jean shorts, and boys throw on some jorts and t-shirts.
However, there are some trends that have definitely been recycled, including Ed Hardy, JNCO Jeans, Von Dutch, Affliction, Birkenstocks, Miss Me Jeans, etc. Those were all brands that started in the 90s-2000s that have made a comeback with thrifting, and vintage clothing, and is under the Y2K style that is also really popular right now. There are still some things that have never been out of style: Levi 501s, Converse Chucks, UGGs, and Vans.
Some trends go, and some stay forever, but one thing is for sure that if we are running late or having a bad hair day, you could never go wrong with your favorite oversized hoodie. It’s best to remember that it is never required to follow any trends. In fact, it’s best to set them and to always be yourself! 😉
