Club Rush is on August 21, 2024 and one of the clubs that will be displayed at Club Rush is Hispanic Honors Society.
This club is an amazing opportunity for people to join and get in on the experience of Hispanic culture.
Club President, Abel Zavala’s advice to everybody interested in joining the National Hispanic Honors Society is, “My advice for you guys would be to just join. No matter where you’re from, just join and spread good ideas and give to the community. Help us grow our club while also having fun in whatever year of high school you’re in, whether it’s the first or even the last! Have fun in your school year and take risks, this fun doesn’t last forever so take advantage and go for it.”
The Club takes part in a lot of fun activities throughout the school year as well. “I love and enjoy seeing people bond over their cultures and experiences. We often help out our community as a group which helps grow character and leadership skills, stated Andrea Marin, Spanish Teacher and club VP.
This club is a way to learn about many different Hispanic cultures and gain some knowledge about Latino culture. So if you’re a little bit interested in learning about Hispanic culture and trying out some stuff to help out, this is especially the club for you.
Marin states about NHHS, “I have always wanted to be a part of something that allows people to fully understand the Hispanic culture because that is where we’re from.”One event that we did last year was when Mrs. Marin hosted the Hispanic Heritage Party in front of the Heritage Pool.
There were activities such as a salsa-tasting contest, bounce houses, face painting, a Loteria, and much more! NHHS was also a part of the Homecoming Parade with a big poster that our members helped create and set up for the parade and ended with a huge success! We also got the opportunity to volunteer for the Buckeye Air Fair last year! There are many opportunities that you can participate in this club as well as make some friends.
Hispanic Honors Society’s goal is to make sure that their club is filled with students who are passionate about learning about Hispanic culture.
Zavala’s goal for this year is, “First, I’m hoping for us to grow in members, so that is number one in things we have to focus on. We will do whatever we can to get more students involved in such a great club as this one. Second, I want us to be able to start fundraisers and events to help out the community as much as we can, like how NHS does. After all, we ARE called NHHS. Lastly, we want to show our pride and love for our Hispanic Heritage around the community of Verrado.”
Their mission is to make sure students aren’t afraid to show their Hispanic pride and have fun in the mix. If you are interested in this club, come find their table during Club Rush during Lunch on August 29th!
