2023’ New York Fashion Week left off with a bang as top designers, including Helmut Lang, Michael Kors, Who Decides War, and more fashion lines unveiled their stylish collections. Models strut the runways all over the big city displaying the designer and couture brands, creating mass talk amongst the fashion scene and interest from buyers and media. From iconic designers to emerging talents, the runways lit up with diverse and captivating collections.
The NYFW curtains rose with a hot showcase by Peter Do’s Helmut Lang collection, with a focused color scheme that blended black, white, and hot pink. Peter Do’s talent extended to graphic tees with thought-provoking phrases like ‘MY LIFE IS A WEAPON’ and ‘YOUR CAR WAS MY FIRST ROOM.’ The collection seamlessly incorporated suits and other garments, with small but impactful pink accents that set Peter Do’s show apart and made it distinctly his own.
Aside from Helmut Lang, the first day of NYFW also featured other known brands such as
Ralph Lauren, Christian Siriano, Grace Ling, Prabal Gurung, Collina Strada, and Private Policy.
Kicking off the second day, appearances like Jonathan Cohen, Theory, Bevza, Proenza Schouler, Sami Miro Vintage, Tibi, Palomo Spain, Alice + Olivia, Anna Sui, Priscavera, Khaite, Eckhaus Latta, Kim Shui, hit the runways with their distinctive creations, showcasing the nature of modern fashion.
Dion Lee gave New York one of the hottest, eyegazing collections yet that night. Many garments with denim (blue & washed), dresses, leather pieces, lingerie, and more were incorporated into the collection. The impressive color schemes of denim shades, core black, pure white, khaki, and red captivated the audience’s attention. Each set created a focal point that divided the pieces that were similar in a group.
Sunday brought a compelling showcase by WHO DECIDES WAR, characterized by its vintage style set and colorful garments. Denim and leather made a highlighted appearance in this collection, aligning perfectly with the latest fashion trends. Well-known names like Ice Spice, Central Cee, and Teyana Taylor attended this event.
The day also saw appearances from Ulla Johnson, Studio 189, FForme, Colin Locascio, Jason Wu Collection, Advisry, Adeam, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Area, Sergio Hudson, and Staud.
Starting the new week, at the edge of Brooklyn at the Domino Park, Michael Kors kicked off his show with stunning dresses tethered with cooler colors and white, with a contrast of black, of course. Michael Kors, again, shows flexibility in his pieces while incorporating many focal points like golden garments, and earthy color palettes.
The lineup also incorporated many different names like Rentrayage, Zankov, Canvas, Altuzarra, Dennis Basso, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, Diotima, Gypsy Sport, Rosie Assoulin, Tory Burch, and LaQuan Smith. These designers showcased their distinct visions, adding layers of creativity to NYFW.
As the week progressed, Naeem Khan, Brandon Maxwell, Kozaburo, Gabriela Hearst, Wiederhoeft, Bach Mai, Pamella Roland, Carolina Herrera, Tanner Fletcher, LoveShackFancy, Cos, and Elena Velez showcased their creative collections, as each designer left a unique mark on the runway.
The grand finale of NYFW featured an impressive lineup, including Kallmeyer, Ashlyn, Melitta Baumeister, Frederick Anderson, Puppets & Puppets, Bibhu Mohapatra, PH5, Head of State, Badgley Mischka, Willy Chavarria, The Blonds, and Luar. These designers closed the event leaving a statement of New York’s modern fashion, showcasing their creativity and innovation through each piece incorporated into their collections..
