The preparations for PowderPuff are on the way! The interest meeting just happened for it during RTI last week, and there are big plans for the game. The game will take place on December 10th at 6 pm during Wish Week, but there’s more to come before then.
If you are unaware of what PowderPuff is, it is a flag football game that only girls can participate, in which it is usually seniors vs juniors. In contrast, guys cheer them on in cheer-like uniforms. With that, students don’t have to have any experience with either sport to participate. It is a fun event for many high schools around the US, and it is usually a fundraiser. This year, the PowderPuff will be during Verrado’s Make-A-Wish Week, and the proceeds will go toward children with critical illnesses to grant their “wish”.
During the meeting, students were informed about everything they needed to know. There will be four practices held before the game, and students were given the forms they needed to participate. As well as information on special shirts, they will receive once time rolls around.
Each team will hold 25 players, with 11 for offense, 11 for defense, and 3 extras. While all the guys who have signed up will be on the sidelines during the game, doing chants and other fun activities to lift the spirits.
While the girls’ senior team has enough players already, if you’re a junior, spots are still available! Mrs. Summers stated during the meeting, “If you have any junior friends, even a little interested, please bring them over!” So just head over to Mrs. Summers’ room in E31 by the library and ask her about PowderPuff if this sounds fun!
Everyone is excited for this friendly, competitive game with a good fundraising event behind it! A senior states, “I’m so excited for PowderPuff this year since a lot of my friends have joined. I think it will be a fun experience and a great way to give back during the holiday season!” With that, there will be more news to share about PowderPuff as we get closer to Make-A-Wish Week in December. With updates on how the Senior and Junior Teams are shaping up, as well as how the boys are planning to cheer them on. So stay tuned Vipers!
