People see a lot of colors going about their day. Different shades, hues, tints. When these colors are seen, people tend to associate them with different attributes. These colors actually can have a really big effect on how individuals perceive each other.

Starting with warm colors. Red is an iconic lover color. When someone wears red, more people may think of it in a romantic way. Red is associated with passion and love, but it is also known to be a color related to adventure and danger in media. This will correspond with being an outgoing person and an adventurous type.

The next color is orange. If orange is worn, it can be seen as enthusiastic. Orange is related to sunshine and happiness. People will perceive others as a social person that will go out of their way to start a conversation.

Moving on to yellow. Wearing yellow will make people associate this with being energetic. The reason for it being related to energy is because the sun is yellow. When wearing yellow, it also gives off very happy vibes. By wearing yellow, you might even help fellow classmates! The University of Columbia says, “…observing the color yellow can lead to an increase in the production of serotonin in the brain” (The Psychology Behind The Colors You Wear). So, in general, yellow is a nice color to wear to brighten someone’s mood.

Moving onto the cool colors, starting off with green. Green is often associated with nature. When in nature, people find themselves at peace and are calm, so those attributes would transfer when wearing green.

Next is the color of the sky and ocean, blue! Due to the relationship between the ocean and the sky, wearing blue will be seen as calm/peaceful since that’s the color of a cloudless sky. Also, when the beaches are calm and not polluted. A person wearing blue may also be thought of as a loyal individual.

Closing off the cool colors, we have purple. Purple is known to be an ambitious color. Most everyone is aware that purple is associated with royalty and riches. Author Ken Phillips states, “Purple as the royal color started with ancient monarchies. The color was difficult to produce, which made it expensive and available only to upper society. Rulers wore purple robes and used purple ink to sign their edicts” (The Color Purple–History, Meaning Facts, HunterLab). So, if one wants to be viewed as such it is recommended to wear this color!

The next color is the iconic Barbie color, pink! Wearing pink can be associated with being kind, joyful, hopeful and having a softer personality in general. Pink is also known to be a color related to femininity/feminism.

Brown is up next, the color of the earth. So, just like green, it is quite often associated with nature. Alongside that, the color brown can make people believe the wearer is a warm and strong person. This is due to the fact that wood is brown and used for fire. Otherwise, the reason being strong is associated with this color is because of the big brown grizzly bear.

The last two colors are white and black. These two colors are quite the opposite. White is a pure, honest, and innocent color when worn. Fellow student Hannah Bruce says, “White feels like a clean color when I look at it”.On the other hand, black is a mysterious, strong, and independent color. Black is also a more formal color and is worn when going to meetings or events like prom. Another student, Aria Anderson, states, “Black gives me professional vibes, you see in movies people wearing suits and uniforms in black are taken more seriously”.

Colors affect how the world perceives certain things including the people on it. So make sure to pay a little more attention to what color to wear. They might have an everlasting effect on how an individual perceives someone.
