Yakira Wade, Op/Ed Editor
Yakira Wade has always felt like the world is too quiet for her liking. Everyone was talking and sharing ideas but none of it was new. Where was the perspective, the differences, the uniqueness? Her thirst for something new was why she sought all kinds of art. How could Yakira get loud? Where could she find it? Coming all the way from New Mexico to California and landing in Arizona, the search was on.
Psychology has become and still is her main interest. She loves both the inner workings of the mind and feels like there aren’t enough child psychologists for children of color. Mental health is a serious issue; having seen it up close and personal, she resolves to help out. Yakira was starting to feel her world getting a little louder
Creative writing is more of her scene than other types of writing; usually finds herself staying up late into the night to finish chapters on various stories. She's been writing for as long as she was able to pick up a pencil so it’s one of her oldest talents. No matter what form, writing is something she loves and this extends to journalism. What better way to experience something than through the eyes of a journalist; especially when they can shed light on a new angle on the story. This is it. This is Yakira's noise.
